Technology ClassMrs. Vlha
Computer Explorers Tuesday and Thursday Grades K - 8 The goal of the Computer Explorers program is to teach software application skills that are intended to support classroom learning by integrating technology into the core curriculum content. Over the course of a school year, students will learn how to fully use some of today's most popular software while practicing: Basic Computer Operations Database Keyboarding Spreadsheet Word Processing Multimedia Presentations Graphics Telecommunications/Internet Keyboarding is the first unit taught each school year and classes revisit the lesson throughout the year to keep track of growth. The "Herzog Method" will be used to familiarize students with proper keyboarding. Students are encouraged to practice accuracy over speed and to concentrate on using the correct fingers. Students are graded daily (1, 2, 3) on their keyboarding effort, even when we are not working specifically on typing. Each class session will begin with a vocabulary word discussion and preview of what we will be doing for the day. Students are encouraged to take notes on the definitions to study. A vocabulary quiz of ten words is taken at the end of each software unit. This is an Integrated Technology Resource Program, meaning that our lessons aim to reinforce classroom material with the use of various computer programs. To do this, a specific piece of software will be taught for 4 - 6 class sessions. Students will then be asked to create a project using that software and classroom content suggested by their teacher.
